Public Collective Foundation Promoting the Bavarian State Museums

The foundation was established in 1992 by the Galerie-Verein München e.V.

After the erection of the building of the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich the Galerie-Verein München e.V. renamed itself to PIN. Freunde der Pinakothek der Moderne e.V.

The purpose of the Foundation is to support the Bavarian State Museums in expanding their collections and thus to safeguard important cultural assets for the general public. This is realized by acquiring works of art, artefacts and other objects of cultural interest to be permanently integrated in the Bavarian State Collections.

The foundation accepts and manages endowments, donations and bequests.

The Foundation is also entitled to support other Bavarian museums sponsored by Bavarian based foundations established under public law.

The Foundation is a charitable non-profit organisation. Contributions may therefore be tax-deductible for taxpayers resident in Germany. Special income tax regulations apply for contributions to charitable foundations according to Section 10 b paragraph 1a of the German Income Tax Act.

For inheritance tax purposes the state exempts donations to a charitable foundation if inherited assets are transferred by the heirs to a charitable German foundation within twenty-four months.

The above descriptions on tax legislation are to be understood as general information only. The Foundation does not provide tax advice.
